Chelsea are continuing to blend their new recruitment team with the summer’s interim work of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. Those two have been the public figures in command of the day-to-day business at the club since their takeover earlier this year and it’s been busy, to say the least.
With transfer acitivity and club progression avenues being explored across the globe there is no knowing where the latest transfer or new director might come from. Be it young or old, Chelsea are showing extreme interest and openness in all aspects of the new regime’s plan to function.
It has created uncertainty but also excitement within the fanbase that are preparing to go back into domestic action eighth in the table. Meanwhile a team of men looking at solidifying a mid to long-term strategy are coming into place. Having signed two players over 30 in the summer but also three teenagers, on top of multiple more youth arrivals for the academy set-up, there is a blend of activity going on.
The Argentine isn’t readily linked with the Blues and it appears the chances of him playing at Stamford Bridge were at their most likely in 2014 when a major bid went in for the then-Barcelona star. Now, with his Paris Saint-Germain contract up at the end of the season, the World Cup golden ball winner could be about to leave for free.
It had been reported in the Athletic that MLS side Inter Miami were confident of securing him, but Fabrizio Romano has since written that PSG have a verbal agreement that he will remain in Paris. This could open up room for one of Kylian Mbappe or Neymar to leave in 2023, and Boehly could be working on a shock move in this department.
Transfer expert Simon Phillips writes that Boehly met with Neymar’s representatives in Qatar during the World Cup. It remains unknown who they are or why talks took place, but the American has once again shown his comfort in footballing circles and his ambition to be around the key players at the table.
Neymar has worked with Pini Zahavi before and Chelsea themselves have good relationships with the agent which could bolster their chances if something is to be done here.
