The University of North Texas (UNT) is a public research university in Denton, Texas. It was founded as a nonsectarian, coeducational, private teachers college in 1890 and was formally adopted by the state 11 years later. UNT is a member of the University of North Texas System, which includes additional universities in Dallas and Fort Worth. UNT also has a location in Frisco.

The university consists of 14 colleges and schools, an early admissions math and science academy for exceptional high-school-age students from across the state, the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, and a library system that comprises the university core. It is classified among “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity”. According to the National Science Foundation, UNT spent $78.4 million on research and development in 2019.

Undergraduate Students

The average annual cost of attendance for a Texas resident living on campus and enrolled in 15 hours per semester is $26,554.

For out-of-state students, the average annual cost of attendance is $38,794.

Graduate Students

The average annual cost of attendance for a Texas resident living off campus and enrolled in 9 hours per semester is $22,568.

For out-of-state students, the average annual cost of attendance is $31,530.

International Students

Estimated expenses for international students will be provided on their immigration documents by the Division of International Affairs, which could vary from the above estimates, based upon immigration requirements. Some international students may qualify for in-state, resident tuition.

ACCEPTANCE RATE

University of North Texas admissions is selective with an acceptance rate of 81%. Half the applicants admitted to UNT have an SAT score between 1010 and 1240 or an ACT score of 19 and 26.
